Our Chemstart 52 box has been sitting in my bedroom cupboard for a month, and the excitement in our house has been palpable. But we were officially on summer holiday when it arrived, so it has been peeked at, had its cover read, turned around and examined from all angles… and it has generally created … Continue reading REVIEW & DISCOUNT OFFER: CHEMSTART 52 – Switching kids on to science

Microscope Fun

Yesterday, we assembled our Foldscopes that I bought aaaages ago but just haven’t gotten round to using. The Tall One put his papercraft skills to good use assembling the little gadget and had it put together in no time. For those not in the know, a Foldscope is an ingenious little device, made of plasticized … Continue reading Microscope Fun

The Egg-ceptional Ecoegg

I am absolutely impressed with the Ecoegg. At just under 60c a wash, for an earth-friendly, animal-friendly, skin-friendly product, I don’t think it can be beaten.
Every time I use it, I think of all the plastic and packaging I am cutting down on by not buying laundry detergent and softener. I mentally multiply that by a year and longer!

Pudding for Breakfast!

We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but how many of us actually eat it? Given the choice between 15 minutes extra sleep and eating something, I know which I would choose right now! But being a mom of four, I have to be mindful of nutrition. Please, No Bashing!

There’s this new phenomenon I’ve noticed, that’s really been getting to me more and more. And it’s making me so sad. I’m on a lot of mom’s groups. I mostly use them for business, but every now and again I get sucked down the wormhole of reading through posts. I totally see the need for … Continue reading Please, No Bashing!

BUSY MOM’S LENTILS 3 WAYS

It is fantastic for pulses (which I always burn on the stove … Continue reading BUSY MOM’S LENTILS 3 WAYS

WRAPS, SLINGS, POUCHES AND CARRIERS…WHICH BABY WEARING OPTION IS FOR YOU?

Our Blossom Creations pouch sling I am a HUGE fan of baby wearing. It just makes sense to me. Babies need to be close to their moms (or dads) to feel safe and secure, but busy parents often need their hands free – enter the sling, pouch or carrier. There are so many benefits to … Continue reading WRAPS, SLINGS, POUCHES AND CARRIERS…WHICH BABY WEARING OPTION IS FOR YOU?

Local is Lekker this Christmas

*First published December 2012 It's so easy to be lured by the colours and flashing lights of the made in China deluge. But 9 times out of 10, the toy has broken by the time the wrapping debris has been cleared from the floor on Christmas morning. Why not shop locally this year? Look for … Continue reading Local is Lekker this Christmas

Easy Peasy Roast Tomato Sauce

I'm essentially a really lazy creature. I save time, money and effort where I can, and over my 17 years of being a mom, I've come up with a few really easy and cheap recipes my kids love.

In Defence of Teens

When I tell people that I love having teenagers, they tend to look at me like I’ve sprouted tentacles from my ears. Parents liking the teenage years seems to be an oxymoron, but it really can be a period of great connection with your almost-adult child. For the first time in their lives, their interests … Continue reading In Defence of Teens
